5 Ways to Spend an Evening in Waikiki

In Waikiki, the day doesn’t have to end when you leave the beach. As the sun dips toward the Pacific, the neighborhood takes on a different energy, with oceanfront cocktails, live Hawaiian music, open-air dining, and plenty of places to stay out a little longer. Whether you’re looking for a laid-back sunset or a night filled with music and dancing, there are plenty of ways to make an evening in Waikiki part of the vacation.

Staying at Twin Fin Waikiki puts you across from the beach and within easy reach of many of Honolulu’s favorite evening spots. Here are five ways to make the most of Waikiki after dark.

1. Catch the Sunset at Waikiki Beach

Sometimes, the best evening plans are the simplest. Head across from Twin Fin to Waikiki Beach as the afternoon winds down and watch the sky change colors over the Pacific. Find a spot on the sand, stroll along the shoreline, or settle in near the Waikiki Wall to watch surfers catch their final waves of the day.

Whether you spend the hour on the sand or at a beachfront table, sunset is an easy way to slow down before heading out for the night.

2. Experience Hawaiian Music and Hula

For an evening that connects you with Hawaii’s culture, take a short walk to the Kūhiō Beach Hula Show, held at the hula mound near the Duke Kahanamoku statue. The free performance features hula and live Hawaiian music, and it’s typically held on select evenings each week. Schedules vary by season and weather, so check the calendar before you go, and bring a beach chair or mat.

3. Make Dinner an Experience

In Waikiki, dinner can be more than a stop between daytime activities. Choose a restaurant where the atmosphere is just as memorable as the menu, whether that means dining beside the ocean, listening to live music, or lingering over a tropical cocktail.

For a convenient option close to Twin Fin, head to Tiki’s Grill & Bar, located at the hotel. Tiki’s Grill & Bar is just steps from the beach, with open-air seating and front-row views of surfers at Waikiki Beach. Expect an open kitchen serving a casual American and Pacific Rim menu, colorful cocktails, and live contemporary Hawaiian music every night. Be there when the sun goes down, because the sunset from Tiki’s patio is one of the best seats in Waikiki. Tiki’s is open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight, with happy hour from 3 to 5 p.m., and reservations are available through OpenTable.

4. Discover a Hidden Waikiki Speakeasy

For a night out with a little mystery, you don’t have to leave Twin Fin Waikiki. Tucked inside the hotel, SinIceStir Speakeasy brings the glamour of the Prohibition Era to Kalākaua Avenue, pairing handcrafted cocktails with island-inspired flavors and a playful sense of discovery.

Finding the entrance is part of the fun. So perfectly hidden that you may have to check the fridge door, SinIceStir invites guests to send a direct message on Instagram for the password before slipping inside. Once you’re in, explore a menu of signature drinks and boozy shave ice created by mixologist Jen Ackrill.

With an intimate, after-hours atmosphere and views of Waikīkī Beach, SinIceStir offers a different side of the neighborhood’s nightlife. It’s an ideal final stop after dinner or a way to turn an ordinary evening into something a little more memorable, all without leaving your hotel.

If you’re looking for a nightcap that feels like a discovery, this hidden cocktail spot is worth adding to your Waikiki itinerary.

5. Keep the Night Going With Rooftop Drinks and Live Entertainment

For a fun night out in Waikiki, check out SWELL Restaurant and Pool Bar, just a five-minute walk from the Twin Fin. As the sun goes down, SWELL Pool Deck transforms into an elevated rooftop entertainment experience, complete with nightly live music and DJs, fire pits, and happy hour specials. Guests can also enjoy the Light Monument Video Art Series, featuring stunning Oʻahu landscapes by local artist Joseph Pāahana. It’s a great spot to enjoy cocktails, catch the sunset, and experience Waikiki’s nightlife.
